Installing Wall Insulation: 5 Important Tools

Are you interested in installing or replacing insulation yourself? If so, you’ve come to the right place- installing wall insulation yourself can save you a lot of money, but only if you do it with the correct tools. Using the right equipment to install will not only make your project go faster, but it will also ensure you’re staying safe while doing so.

Getting Started With R-Value

Before we get started, you’ll need to make sure you know the R-Value for your project. The R in R-Value stands for resistance to heat flow- if you have a high R-value, your insulation will be higher in insulating power and more resistant to heat. R-Value is based on what part of your building you want to insulate, so make sure to calculate your R-Value correctly before you start.

Safety First

What’s the most important part of any job? SAFETY. When installing insulation anywhere, you need to make sure you have quality protective gear including:

  • Dust mask,
  • Safety glasses or goggles, and
  • Long sleeve shirt and work boots.

Wearing the above safety gear and clothing will protect you from any flying particles or hazards that could result in irritation or injury on the job. If you have trouble finding equipment, stop by our showroom to browse our tools and material samples.

Products & Tools

Now that you have determined your R-Value and gotten PPE, it’s time to buy tools. When installing insulation, you’ll need the following products:

  1. Tape measure,
  2. Straightedge,
  3. Utility knife,
  4. Stapling tool, and
  5. Putty knife or screwdriver.

Having these tools will enable you to cut the insulation to the proper length for your space and place the pieces into small crevices and other areas. Using the correct measurements is always important for installing insulation, so make sure to double check your measurements before making the final cut!
